November 5 2008, after more than a year of weekends and evenings in the studio, we released our second full–length album, a collection of 20 songs entitled Genetics. To celebrate, we threw a release party. You can see a recap in our Gig Diary.
The release party also kicked off a Fundraiser, aimed to help us defray our CD production costs and to support CONNECT (www.connectnyc.org), a local NYC–based non–profit organization dedicated to the prevention and elimination of family and gender violence.
In this spirit of community, 20 visual artists donated work to the Fundraiser. Each artist took a song from Genetics and created a piece inspired by that song’ title and/or general concept. The media, disciplines and techniques of the art vary from artist to artist, reflecting the musical diversity of the songs from the album.
Together, these 20 works of art are featured in Agua Trip’s first book project, called Genetics: A Visual Songbook. The book was designed by Esther L Kim in two formats; a magazine version and a limited–edition hand–bound version containing several fun design elements. Both formats are available during the Fundraiser.
All 20 artists donated their pieces to be displayed and sold at a silent auction at the release party and then during an Online Art Sale after the event. This is an excellent opportunity for fans, friends, family and art collectors to acquire unique art in a creative context while contributing to a worthwhile cause. The art also created a beautiful, imaginative and interesting setting for all to enjoy at the release party.
The fundraiser lasts from November 5th until December 12th, and during that time Agua Trip and CONNECT will split the profits from the Online Art Sale and from Genetics: A Visual Songbook.
